What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

If you experience hopelessness, helplessness, confusion, fear, anxiety, being stuck and unable to function, counselling can help you to understand your current situation and learn how to take control of your life.

In counselling and psychotherapy you will have the opportunity to explore how your past and present thoughts, feelings and events affect you.

You will be listened to in a non-judgemental way with empathy and understanding. Working within this setting allows you to gain a better awareness of yourself, by looking at your internal processes, and to deal with issues that arise. With encouragement and guidance you will discover how to achieve your goals with the knowledge you have found out about yourself.

This self-knowledge will energise you to draw on your inner strength and as a result help you to take action through life’s ups and downs. The therapeutic relationship between you as the client and me as the counsellor is the core of a successful relationship, which will enable you to reach your true potential.

Sometimes children and adults find it difficult to express their feelings in words. For children, using creative interventions such as drawing, placing objects in a sand tray, listening to music, working with puppets and with art materials can help with facilitating the therapeutic process. For some adults, interventions such as working with imagery and dreams can help to trigger thought processes.
